The below industries are restricted by the US Department of State and have certain requirements your internship must abide by to be approved.
- Hospitality – must show a rotation of skills through different departments
- Healthcare – you cannot work hands on with any patients or provide medical advice. (This also covers Veterinary, where you cannot be responsible for animal welfare)
- Education – you cannot teach.
- Social Care – you cannot be responsible for the welfare of other persons. Certain locations are also not approved for work placements.
- Sports – you cannot work as a Coach, Personal Trainer or on a Gym floor.
- Nutrition – you cannot advise clients on their nutritional needs.
- Sales – you cannot be responsible for direct selling or working for commission.
- Retail – you cannot work as a shop assistant, retail internships must take place in the management office.
- Agriculture – you cannot work ‘hands on’ on a farm (manual labour) or be responsible for animal welfare.
- Construction – you cannot work ‘on site’ as a labourer.
