US Embassy Documents Checklist

Modified on Wed, 9 Apr at 8:04 PM

There are a number of documents you must bring with you to your embassy appointment. Please bring printed copies of each of the following:

  • Embassy appointment confirmation – this should be emailed to you once you have booked your appointment. A print out of the email will suffice.
  • DS2019 – Available to download from your US Sponsor application. Please sign your DS2019 at the very bottom in BLUE INK. Place will either be ‘Dublin, Ireland’ or ‘Belfast, Northern Ireland’ depending on the location you have chosen. Date will be the date of your appointment and written in MM/DD/YYYY format.
  • SEVIS Receipt – Instructions on how to download this will be sent to you after your DS2019 has been issued.
  • Passport.
  • Any previous J1 visa’s (copies or in your passport).
  • DS160 Confirmation page – emailed to you once you have completed the DS160 form.
  • Copy of your Graduation Cert and Academic Transcripts – if you have completed your studies but have not yet graduated, bring a letter from your college verifying your academic status and your final results to show you have passed.
  • Bank Statement or statement of savings, no more than 90 days old and showing a minimum of $3000 or the equivalent of in Euro.
  • Return evidence – You need to be able to prove to the interview officer at the Embassy that your intention is to return to Ireland AFTER your stay in the USA. Some participants get a letter from an employer (past or current) stating that should a position be available on your return they would consider hiring you. If you plan on returning to education please bring along some information on the course you plan on doing.  These are the only forms of return evidence USIT can advise. You will have to prove that you plan on returning to Ireland and not using the visa as a steppingstone to stay in the US indefinitely.
  • A 2 by 2-inch passport photo (American size passport photo).
  • Your insurance information – validation cert.
  • If you have an arrest or conviction, you will be required to bring a Garda Certificate – this can be obtained from your local Garda Station. This may result in you doing a Medical ( circa cost €400). If you interview in Dublin it is normally completed at the Mater Hospital and if you interview in Belfast the medical will be held in London ( circa £400 )
