Grad USA History

The Graduate Programme was established in 2008 as Pilot Programme and has quickly become a right of passage for Irish Graduates hoping to gain valuable work experience in the USA. Officially named the Intern Work and Travel Programme, the 12-month visa allows Irish Graduates who hold an Irish passport to intern in the USA up to 12 months in their qualified field of study. This is the last US visa ( for Irish Participants) where applicants are not required to have a position secured prior to departure and you have 9days to secure the position from the date your work papers begin after you enter the USA.

The Graduate Visa is the most flexible US Visa available to Irish passport holders as you can train anywhere you want in the USA and are not limited to certain locations – although we do recommend making sure the location you choose has internship readily available in your field of study!

You can enter the USA 30 days before your work papers kick in and stay for 30 days after to get settled, travel and enjoy all the US has to offer – essentially allowing you 14 months in the US altogether.

You can have multiple internships in your field of study and move around different states – they just can’t overlap! For example, secured a 5-month Marketing internship with your Business degree in New York – might be time for a change – how about another 6-month Finance internship in San Francisco?

The Graduate Visa is the perfect opportunity to bridge the gap between college and career and where better to do this than in the USA.
